  1.                                 FOCUSING THE EYE PIECES

  4. Be sure the eye pieces are in focus for you.  
  5.  
  6. If both eye pieces can be focused, 
  7. set them at 0 and then with a narrow 
  8. slit on either the focusing rod or on 
  9. the patient's closed lid, be sure that 
  10. both eye pieces are in simultaneous 
  11. focus.  If not adjust to bring the slit 
  12. in focus.

  14. If only one eye piece can be focused, 
  15. using only the eye with the eyepiece 
  16. that can not be focused, be sure the 
  17. slit is in focus on the focusing rod 
  18. (#1) or the patient's closed lid.  Then 
  19. looking through the other eye piece, 
  20. adjust it to bring the slit in focus.
